The keyboard as the compositor reads it — the lock screen has no way to ask, and a password typed with Caps Lock on, Num Lock off or the other layout active is a wrong password nobody can see the reason for.

Wrong attempts since this lock began, so a lock screen can say so.

The active xkb layout's name, "English (US)". Empty with only one.

What PAM said about the last attempt, if anything: pam_faillock's "the account is locked" is the one that matters, because while it holds even the right password is refused and nothing else would say why.
